Mission Statement
Our goal for you
Imagine a night full of better sleep and waking up refreshed. Imagine getting to the source of your TMJ pain and headaches...
Here at Granite State Myofunctional Therapy it is our goal to help you achieve your healthiest self. We want to help you prevent future issues and work together to help you improve your quality of life. Chronic mouthbreathing leads to future health problems. Improper swallowing and tongue posture are often precursors to upper airway resistance and sleep disorders. Sleep apnea is being studied to determine if there are in fact links to dementia. We want to help you reduce your risk of future health complications!
Myofunctional therapy has the goal of correcting four common problems. These are stepping stones to further health conditions. The focus is on correcting mouth breathing, tongue posture, lip posture and swallowing as well as providing support with tongue tie releases.
Myofunctional therapy is often done in conjunction with orthodontics or following orthodontic treatment. On occasions it may be started before treatment. It is often best to have a consult before you begin orthodontics to make a multi-phased plan.
The ideal patient is around 7-12 years of age to help correct any beginnings of deviations of the norm and to help guide optimal growth patterns. Occasionally treatment is done at a younger age. For our patients who are in their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and yes even older the focus of treatment is to restore proper function. Restoring proper function helps to reduce problems such as TMJ discomfort, preventing orthodontic relapse, aid in proper swallowing and digestion, and to learn nasal breathing. When proper function is restored this leads to a healthier state of being.
